About Yakinau Izakaya Japanese Restaurant

Walking into the space, the dim lighting and rustic woodwork create an intimate vibe that encourages slowing down and savoring each moment. The interplay between traditional Japanese decor and modern touches adds character without overwhelming the senses. While the atmosphere invites conversation, the bustling nature of the dining area means some noise levels can rise during peak times. Several reviewers have noted this dynamic in various Yakinau Izakaya Japanese Restaurant reviews, contributing to an authentic yet lively experience.

A glance through the Yakinau Izakaya Japanese Restaurant menu reveals a thoughtful balance between classic izakaya staples and creative twists. Small plates like the crispy chicken karaage sit comfortably alongside more adventurous dishes such as grilled miso eggplant. Portion sizes encourage sharing, aligning with the casual, communal ethos of Japanese izakayas. The drink selection complements the food well, featuring a range of sake and Japanese whiskies that have earned mentions in online discussions highlighting the pairing possibilities seen in Yakinau Izakaya Japanese Restaurant photos shared by diners.

Despite its appeal, some aspects could feel uneven to certain visitors, especially when it comes to wait times during peak dining hours. The staff generally maintain a welcoming demeanor, yet the pace can fluctuate depending on the evening’s crowd. Value aligns with the careful preparation evident in each dish, though keen diners looking for a quieter experience might want to consider timing their visit. Those searching for genuine izakaya fare in Melbourne often reference this restaurant as a solid option among city venues, supported by an array of recent Yakinau Izakaya Japanese Restaurant reviews highlighting its consistent flavors and inviting sense of place.

Finally got to try this place with friends! Right at the entrance, there's a row of wine cabinets, creating a cozy atmosphere. Each seating area is well-designed for privacy, making it perfect for gatherings and chats with friends. We ordered a cold dish, buckwheat noodles, beef, and pork. The beef and pork were fantastic – so tender and flavorful! The staff helped us grill the meat, and their skills definitely outshine ours. The buckwheat noodles are a must-try – a perfect pairing with the grilled meats. The grilled zucchini and seafood chicken were also great choices – you can't go wrong with them.

Absolutely loved our recent visit to Yakinau Izakaya! We went for skewers night and had an amazing spread – the grilled chicken, eggplant, zucchini, and mushroom were all super tasty and perfectly cooked. The highlight was definitely the BBQ Wagyu M9 – it literally melted in my mouth, so tender and flavourful! We also tried a few entrées like the salmon sashimi and prawn toast, and they were just as impressive. Every dish was fresh and beautifully presented. The dining setup is also a big plus – each small table feels like its own private space, making it perfect for catching up with friends or even celebrating a birthday. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for delicious Japanese food in a cozy, intimate setting!

Cons: Mocktails were too sweet with our tastes. Pros: Great service, lovely staff. Extremely helpful and friendly. Enjoy the BBQ experience here. Nice location, just quite alleyway that easy to find and stay away from busy road. Note: The food portions were small (but equally good quality for the price point)

Hidden joint with quality meats! Seats were in little cubicles so it was nice. Team was super cool and helpful. Quality food all rounder. Must try the ramen and Wagyu

We were craving Japanese food and stumbled upon this Yakiniku spot—and it hit the mark. The Wagyu beef slices were tender, easy to grill, and absolutely delicious. The spicy beef rice was full of flavour and hit all the right notes. A satisfying dinner in a cosy restaurant—we left happy and full.

Absolutely loved our Friday dinner at Yakinau Izakaya! The Wagyu Night Out set ($80) was amazing value — premium M9 cuts, fresh prawns, pork belly and veggies, all grilled to perfection. You can also grab sake or plum wine during happy hour for just $6, which paired perfectly with the BBQ. The mentaiko prawn toast and chicken karaage were also standout dishes. Great atmosphere, friendly service, and perfect spot for a casual night out with friends. Bonus points for their weekday promos — each day has a different special. Highly recommend for anyone who loves Japanese BBQ and izakaya vibes in the city!

BBQ varieties are on the pricey side. But having the ramen as the main, with a few meats to share, was great to try the experience without needing to spend too much on meats. Seating and environment was cozy and great for small groups.
